New Website Blows Cover on Anti-Tax Group

A stream of endless propaganda from the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance is carefully disguised as "research." For too long, it has defined the tax agenda in Wisconsin -- a conservative, regressive, pro-corporate agenda on taxes and investment in public services.

For WISTAX, it's always about the costs and conveniently never about the benefits of government and the quality services public employees provide to the people of Wisconsin. It's an ingenious tactic by WISTAX: isolate the cost -- ignore the benefit.

To set the record straight, the non-profit watchdog group One Wisconsin Now has launched WISTAX Watch.

Modeled in part after One Wisconsin Now's successful WMC Watch website, WISTAX Watch is a project that for the first time provides a full analysis of the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance -- the WISTAX board, its history, its connections, its conservative agenda and the way it manipulates the numbers to reinforce the conservative agenda, all the while maintaining its independent and non-ideological facade.

"Our intention is to ensure the progressive values we share are fully-incorporated into the all-too-often one-sided tax debate -- and that when the media talks taxes, it includes a progressive perspective and the work from progressive tax researchers alongside the pro-corporate, regressive tax agenda of WISTAX," said Scot Ross, executive director of One Wisconsin Now.
